Product Details

This registration is for the On Demand version of Mime Over Mind - New tools to enhance your offerings for people with Parkinson's, with Barbara Salsberg Mathews and Rebecca Barnstaple.

Workshop description

Mime has been part of global dance traditions for thousands of years. As a therapeutic tool, mime can also help people with Parkinson’s override specific symptoms.
As an art form, mime offers opportunities for creative exploration while providing practical strategies that can be immediately applied in daily activities (e.g. eating, getting dressed, carrying an object across the room, etc.). These techniques are fun, easy to learn and require no specialized equipment. Mime uses fine and large motor skills, imagery and motor memory. Mime is now emerging as an effective adjunct therapy in people with Parkinson’s.
This workshop, co-led by a trained mime living with Parkinson's and a dancer/teaching artist/neuroscientist, introduces you to the 6 Principles of PD Mime and Three Mime Concepts , which are the basis for creating mime illusions such as making an invisible object appear solid to the audience. You’ll explore ways of embedding these tools and techniques - like the Mime Walk - into your Dance for PD classes to add variation and new experiences for your participants.

Join us for this enlightening exploration of the interplay between mime, dance and Parkinson's!
