About Dancing Connections

The Dancing Connections Series is an initiative between The Sydney Opera House, Dance for Parkinson’s Australia and Mark Morris Dance Group’s Dance for PD program. Dancing Connections has distinguished itself by providing high-quality Dance for Parkinson’s classes that link to the work of specific companies in residence at Sydney Opera House. Each series’ community class curriculum is creatively built around the dance works and concepts that form the basis of the company’s repertory. The classes are offered to people with Parkinson’s, their families, dance teachers, friends and care partners. All levels of ability and mobility welcome; no prior dance experience is required.

About to a simple, rock ‘n’ roll . . . song

At first, a reflection on Erik Satie and his influence on Clark’s mentors past and present – the dance meticulous and coolly refined. Next, commanding choreography pulsating with a propulsive force to the punk rock of Patti Smith’s landmark album, Horses. Then, an iridescent tribute to David Bowie, intricate, sublime, the mood moving from elegiac to joyously rebellious.

Enjoying its world premiere at the Barbican, London in 2016, the Olivier Award nominated to a simple, rock ‘n’ roll …song. comprises a triple bill of gorgeously arresting choreography. Performances by a company of fearless and otherworldly dancers are complemented by Charles Atlas’s scintillating lighting design, which features a stage adaptation of his multi-channel video installation Painting by Numbers.

For the Community

People with Parkinson’s, their families, friends and care partners are invited to participate in a free Dance for PD community class February 9 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the Utzon Room. All levels of ability and mobility welcome; no prior dance experience is required.

To enhance the experience, a special discount ticket offer to attend a performance of to a simple, rock ‘n’ roll …song. will be provided to community class participants. Once your registration for the class is confirmed, a link to purchase the tickets will be provided via email.
