Enrichment
“ The workshop is a wonderful experience. David, John, Misty, William, Olie, Ivan, and Eva work together seamlessly to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the movements, music, and administration that best serve people with Parkinson’s disease. I’ve taken the workshop twice; my students eagerly anticipate it; they know I’ll come back with fresh ideas from the teachers and my fellow workshop attendees.—Naomi Goodman, Program Developer, JF&CS, Waltham, MA
I attended the Dance for PD workshop for my own professional development. I would recommend it with high praise to my community of Rosen Movement teachers.—2011 Workshop Participant”
Dance for PD®’s Education & Professional Enrichment program
Our Educational & Professional Enrichment (EPE) path is designed to provide a comprehensive and intimate look at core components of the Dance for PD program so that a wide variety of individuals without dance training or dance teaching experience can learn about our methods and benefit from our resources.
• PD group coordinators, nurses, doctors and hospital administrators attend introductory workshops to learn about Dance for PD Best Practices, and the logistics involved with setting up a program in their own community.
• Yoga teachers, physical and occupational therapists, somatic movement experts, and fitness instructors learn essential principles about using dance-based movement safely and effectively with the Parkinson’s community in order to integrate those principles into their existing practices, or respond to the needs of their clients.
• Caregivers learn fun and creative movements and exercises to do at home with their spouse, partner or friend with Parkinson’s, and come away with fresh ideas about integrating dance into their partners’ lives.
• Dance students and non-professional dance enthusiasts learn how to assist in Dance for PD classes, or movement classes that have participants with Parkinson’s.
EPE participants take part in an actual Dance Teacher training workshop as Active Auditors, covering modules that focus on core philosophies and methods, issues related to working with people with Parkinson’s, safety considerations, integration of music, and general teaching approaches that can be applied to somatic practice, yoga and physical therapy. The EPE program, which also includes a seminar on administrative Best Practices and considerations, is also ideal for healthcare administrators and group coordinators. All EPE participants will observe a demo class, work directly with Dance for PD founders, and engage in interactive learning sessions with teachers from around the country. Enrichment attendees cover the same modules as the Dance Teachers, but are not required to develop, design and practice-teach original exercises as part of the workshop.
Continuing Education
Continuing education is available to EPE course participants through online resources and in-person and virtual professional development sessions. Our Associate Membership will provide EPE program participants with online continuing education resources. These resources will allow practitioners to deepen their knowledge by connecting with a virtual interactive community of affiliated associates. For more information, please click here.
